CROSSCAN DOES KENKEN

Welcome to CROSSCAN DOES KENKEN

I don’t have access to the New York Times paper so we’ll start with the online easy 4x4.
Solving time: 29 seconds.

I started with placing a 2 in the 1x1 box that has a 2 in it. Nice job! I then filled in the other numbers. The puzzle has 4 1’s, 4 2’s, 4 3’s and 4 4’s in it. Just like last week.

Answer of the day: 3x2x3 = 18.

KenKenese alert: 2/1 = 1. Again!

What I liked: Addition, subtraction, multiplication and division all used.

What I hated: The four corners only used 1 and 2. What’s wrong with 3 and 4?

Sez you! You hoity-toity crossword snobs really burn my britches. "Oh, it's all about the wuuurrrds! Oh, how I love the wuuurrds! Look how many wuuurrrds I know!" Makes me wanna puke. This kenken puzzle is actually one of the more elegantly constructed puzzles and does with only four digits what your vaunted Quigleys and Blindauers need 26 letters to do! Plus, all those numbers are used in everyday math. How often do you use NABE in everyday speech? (Probably you do use it everyday, because you're so smart and all your friends are so smart and aaauuuggghhh!)

Is this an episode of "The Twilight Zone?" I'm not at all sure what's going on here. Are Crosscan and CrossKen the same person? Or is PuzzleGirl working in disguise? How will the Dynamic Duo escape Mr. Freeze's icy prison? Tune in tomorrow. Same Cross time! Same Cross channel!

I'm not CrossKen. I do have some suspicions about CrossKen's identity, though...

Having looked back at Rex's site, so do I...

@CrossKen - You're forgetting Rebuses (Rebi?). Sometimes 26 letters aren't enough.

Did you do today's 6X6 medium? It really threw me with the placement of the 3 in the fourth column. I'm tempted to call Natick on it.

I agree, CrossKen. 3 is turning into what 2 was last year.

@Crosscan, thanks so much for the blog! (I found it when I googled 18). I think reading this has already made me a much better KenKen solver! I can't wait to hear how you really feel about 4.

Ah, 4. A much maligned number, never getting the respect it deserves.

See how boring it is to talk about numbers instead of words?
